Imagine a tree.
Tall, majestic, broad trunk, with full branches loaded with streams of leaves of various sizes.
What a beautiful sight! Now imagine the likeness of a family, in tree visuals. The husband, a solid trunk, strong in nature, rough but secure and soothing, because he is rooted in Christ. The wife as the branches holding together the home, family, maybe a job, but her branches are secure, based in the “trunk” of her husband. Their family are the rich green leaves that flow from the base off the mother and father. When the storms of life come, they may move, or even at times whip around, but because they are based and rooted in Christ, and the husband as the firm trunk – they hold together, body and soul, because of who they are, knitted together with a firm foundation.
When deciding to get married, look at the root of where this family comes from. Is there a firm foundation in Christ? (The root of the tree). Is the trunk (dad) strong and full of life in his bark, or is he ripped apart? The branches (mom), are her branches long and sturdy, yet pliable? Pliable for the many “leaves” she holds onto? The children, activities, and numerous ways a woman extends herself for her family, (cook, clean, create, homework, activities, discipline, work etc.). Are the leaves a rich green? Or stagnant, with disease on them? The richness and legacy begins in the root, that will grow strong and mighty in the land.
Be purposeful as you teach your children God’s word. When you discipline, do in love to strengthen each child. Let your tree be strong so that when others see the outside as beautiful, that means the inside is pure and full of life…. good life.
Like the weeping willow, grow with flexibility and strength that comes from Jesus. May your tree grow healthy and strong. May your life be like a stream of living water!
The Word in action:
Daniel 4:10-12 ESV
The visions of my head as I lay in bed were these: I saw, and behold, a tree in the midst of the earth, and its height was great. The tree grew and became strong, and its top reached to heaven, and it was visible to the end of the whole earth. Its leaves were beautiful and its fruit abundant, and in it was food for all. The beasts of the field found shade under it, and the birds of the heavens lived in its branches, and all flesh was fed from it.
Psalm 1:3 ESV
He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
Jeremiah 17:8 ESV
He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”
Matthew 7:17 ESV /
So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit.
Colossians 2:7 ESV
Rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever.
Romans 11:16-27 ESV
. But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree, do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. Then you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do not become proud, but fear.
Hosea 14:6 ESV
His shoots shall spread out; his beauty shall be like the olive, and his fragrance like Lebanon.
